Description

Gear Grinder begins at the intersection of Lower Pine and Pinon and runs west. It's a twisting trail with numerous rocky sections. Gear Grinder is definitely the most rugged trail in all of the eastern Otero area.

Regardless of which direction you do this trail, the amount of climbing and descending is about the same. You'll get a workout in both directions, but hiking from north (where it connects to Bear Scat Trail) to south is a net-downhill route.
