This trail is typically snowy from November through February and may be closed during the summer months due to fire danger. Check with the USFS for current status.

Description

Piñon runs southward from the intersection with Lower Pine and Gear Grinder. Note that spelling varies on signs and maps.

The trail is mostly old two-track but smooth sections, sudden rocky sections, eroded gullies and banked turns are all part of the mix.

After crossing Bear Scat Trail the trail is narrower and more twisting. It eventually ends at Lone Pine.

Piñon is a good way to get to Bear Scat Trail without the rigors of Gear Grinder.
