This trail has a steep start, but it is worth the effort when you get to the long meadow.

Description

Start out across from the entrance of "Valley of the Pines." The trail starts on the right side of the creek, but within 0.2 miles, you'll cross over to the left side of the creek. You'll remain on the left side of the creek until you break out of the forest and into the meadow. The water that continuously flows down this creek originates at the base of a large pine tree in the meadow.

As you continue through the meadow, carefully approach the rise. You might catch some elk feeding at the uppermost end of this large meadow. If you advance to the end of the meadow, you'll find a sign designating the area as Foster Park. Beyond the sign, you'll find a jeep trail. You can go left or right, but either way will eventually lead back to the paved Upper Valley Road. The jeep trail, in either direction, is much longer than backtracking the way you came up.
