Description
This is one of the more difficult segments of the Portes du Soleil (Gateway to the Sun) circuit with some grassy singletrack and the most climbing of any of the Portes du Soleil segments.
From Châtel, France take the Super Châtel lift to begin this trail. The lift deposits you just below the border with Switzerland. You climb to the border which is marked by lac de Conche (Lake) and a small hut with a fountain. From here you'll climb roughly another 100 m (300 ft) along forest road.
At about the 1.5 mile mark, you should take a grassy singletrack which continues straight at a four way intersection of forest roads and trails. At this point, you have 300 m (1000 ft) of nearly continuous descent over 5.5 miles. The grassy singletrack comprises the first mile of this descent. The next 2.5 miles transition to gravel forest road and take you to a different small lake at the Franco-Swiss border. You'll cross the main road at the border in the Pas de Morgins and then continue on the forest road on the other side of the lake which takes you down into Morgins.
In Morgins, you can take the la Folleuse Chairlift to being the next segment of the Portes du Soleil circuit, which is PdS: Morgins to Champoussin.
