Description

The final portion of the Butcher Trail is a climb, and about half-way up that climb is a choice of the Second Divide trail to the left (and down), or the Third Divide trail to the right (and up). If the descent tempts you, you'll find the Second Divide about twice as long as the Third Divide, and maybe half as popular.

The Second Divide's terrain is descending and climbing. At the time of writing, the trail is dirt and loose dirt singletrack, rather than more hard-packed dirt on the Third Divide.

Can't miss this trail junction and sign – downhill is the Second Divide Trail. Short uphill is the Third Divide Trail.
