Overview
This is a classic and accessible Breckenridge-area 13er ascent with expansive views of town, Mt. Guyot, and the surrounding peaks.
Description
From downtown, drive on Main Street to the south side of town. At the last lighted intersection, make a left (east) onto
Boreas Pass Road.
After two miles, make a left onto Baldy Road (County Road 520). Soon you'll arrive at the Bald Mountain Trailhead winter parking lot. I started my hike from here hiking on the mountain dirt road for a half mile up to and past the 4WD lot.
At 1.4 miles, look for the Iowa Mill, built in 1935. At 1.6 miles, there is a great view of Breckenridge Ski Area. At 3.55 miles, the trail narrows, continuing along the mountain ridge. At ~5.3 miles, I was on the rocky and exposed summit of Bald Mt. with views of Mt. Guyot and the neighboring peaks.
When you've had your fill, head back the way you came.
