Do bear in mind that this is NOT a heavily traveled trail and you're likely to be alone.
Description
From a paved parking lot just off the Natchez Trace Parkway, a pleasantly rolling path leads northwest a little more than a half mile to the start of the loop trail. Hiking it anti-clockwise at the split takes you along a narrow ridge for another half mile or so before beginning a switchback into a cool, shaded hollow. There are a couple of creek crossings (bridged) and plenty of places for a picnic; do be sure to carry out your trash and anyone else's you might happen to come across!
After a bottomland stroll past an epically weathered tree (with a guardian!) you'll eventually begin the climb up out of the hollow, heading south and then east back to the trail junction before returning to the trailhead.
Flora & Fauna
We have seen coneflowers, spotted wintergreen, rattlesnake plantain, and more. Early to middle spring is best for the wildflowers. We've also seen snakes (nothing venomous) both on the ridges and down in the hollow. Plenty of other critters and birds too. Bring your binoculars and a camera!
