The trail starts off the Scott Mountain Lookout Road (FS555BC) and begins with a very steep loose and rocky descent. Watch yourself in the steep parts since you are a long ways from help.
At the bottom of the descent, cross Lightning Creek and then start the climb up and over a ridge. The trail is steep and rugged in places. Part way up the climb the trail reaches a junction with the Alley Trail. This is roughly the halfway point and the climbing eases, a little. After reaching the top of the ridge the remaining trail is all downhill to the junction with Lightning Ridge Trail. Take in the views on this hike and enjoy the solitude since you likely won't see a soul.
