Description
Starting from the turnoff to the entrance of Granite Flat Campground, this forest service road is more or less the continuation of the road coming up from Tibble Fork towards
Silver Lake Flat. The road is very well maintained and pretty obvious and easy to follow. The road ascends gradually and is pretty manageable on the way up, and although there are loose rocks and some erosional features, it is mostly a well maintained road through a beautiful forest.
After about 0.75 miles, there is a split for the
Deer Creek-Dry Creek Trail #043 off to the left, which is a great trail to access Box Elder Peak. After approximately 2.5 miles,
Silver Lake Flat finally comes into view, which can be really beautiful depending on the water level.
A little after 3 miles, the road passes by a parking lot for the
Silver Lake Trail and soon thereafter crosses a (sometimes sizeable) creek. The creek can usually be easily crossed on a series of rocks if you don't want your feet to get wet. After crossing the creek, the road continues up past a series of small camping areas in a clearing near the creek, and then eventually "ends" by transitioning into a pair of other forest service roads, one going up toward American Fork Twin Peaks and the other heads off to the west towards a couple of other places.
