Description

This trail starts at the top of Mount Hosmer and goes out to Strong Point. The trail descends at a good grade but is not too difficult. At the end of the trail is the overlook which has a fantastic view overlooking Lansing and the Mississippi River. Also at the end of the trail is the Strong Point flag pole. “Dedicated to the memory of Robert Strong who made the supreme sacrifice for his country in the World War, battle of Meuse-Argonne, October 2 1918.”

Mount Hosmer was dedicated as a Veterans Memorial Park, originally honoring the soldiers from Allamakee County who gave the ultimate sacrifice in World War I. The three points are dedicated to the three soldiers from Lansing who died in World War I -- Robert Strong, George Glynn, and William Beck.
