Dogs Off-leash
Description
The Pool Creek Section initially drops into the upper Roubideau drainage, then weaves through dense forest with an occasional open meadow. The west end of this section is ATV-wide and is part of the Parallel Trail (FSR 139).
This section is a favorite among locals because much of it is singletrack, and travels through dense alpine forest with a few aspen groves and open meadows thrown in for good measure. Initially, follow an ATV trail that parallels the powerline.
At mile 0.8 turn right onto a singletrack. The trail crosses one big drainage then winds through forest and meadows.
At mile 3.2, the trail briefly follows a two-track adjacent to Divide Road before entering singletrack again. At mile 5, the trail reaches the Pool Creek Trailhead into Roubideau Canyon. Continue straight on the ATV trail until reaching the E. Bull Rd. at mile 7.3. Recently, the Forest Service has changed the name of the singletrack segment of the Pool Creek section to Grays Creek Trail. An ATV-wide trail called the Parallel Trail (#139) has been extended between the powerlines and the Pool Creek Trailhead.
Due to the dense nature of the alpine forest and the lack of high points, route-finding can be a challenge at times. As with the other sections of the Tabeguache Trail, a mile-by-mile log of the entire trail can be found on the BLM Uncompahgre Field Office website (
