Family Friendly
Kids and adults alike will enjoy the American bison herd that roams the enclosure alongside parts of the trail.
The trail crosses Genesee Mountain Road within the first mile. Take caution when hiking with small children.
Description
Genesee Mountain Trail can be navigated in either direction, but heading south will give you the benefit of better views and a gentler elevation profile. Follow the easy-to-navigate trail as it passes by the trailheads for
American Bison Trail and
Genesee Summit Trail before joining up with Genesee Drive, a wide dirt road running along the perimeter of the bison enclosure. After a little more than a mile, the road will lead back to singletrack hiking as you circle around the north side of Genesee Mountain to the parking area.
Flora & Fauna
Most of the trail runs through tall, gorgeous pine trees. If luck's on your side, you'll get up-close views of the American bison herd owned and managed by Denver Mountain Parks.
