Description

The start of this trail is located at the Horsethief Springs Trailhead off of the Talimena Scenic Drive. The entire trail could be shuttled if you left a car at the Cedar Lake parking lot. You drop in at the trailhead and begin to make your way downhill right away. Expect to hike over loose boulders packed tightly together, roots, and planted rocks. The first third of the trail starts steep and rugged and gradually levels out over the final two-thirds.

Maneuvering the rocks isn't difficult but the beginning does have steep sections that you'll want to watch your step on.

Look for white rectangles that mark the Horsethief Springs Trail. There are also a number of horse trails in the area, and they overlap with the Horsethief Springs trail in some sections. The horse trails are numbered and marked with yellow rectangles.

Beautiful, fairly easy hike. Trail markings were a little confusing until we realized that some of the markings were for horse trails. 14mi — 7h 00m

We completed the loop from the forest service maps, with a few liberties taken where we got off on the horse trails instead. 13mi — 7h 00m
