Description

Hawknest was added to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in 2015. It travels along the North and Northwest boundaries of the preserve abutting Tonto National Forest.

The trail offers up a fine variety of trail for the preserve. In the Northeast part of the trail you can experience many large Saguaro, Staghorn and Cholla cactus in addition quite a few large Yuccas. Though spiny, the vegetation makes for some great views.

The trail is a little rougher than most of the trails in the preserve, but still is considered an easy trail due to its gentle grades. Since this trail is far from the trailheads, it is a great choice on weekends or when it is crowded, as few people make it quite so far.
