Description
Ruby Ridge Trail #35 starts at the intersection with
Montana Line Trail (#44) a mile or so east of Canuck Pass. The trail follows along the ridge line for several miles, crossing roads at Canuck Pass and Ruby Pass, then descends to the Moyie River. The section between Ruby Pass and Canuck Pass is kind of rugged.
Going south from Ruby Pass the trail follows the ridge for a ways, then climbs up through talus to some beautiful meadows. The trail traverses through the meadows, mostly on a gradual descent. This trail is a little bit more rugged. Other nearby trails like Trail #44, Buckhorn Ridge - Keno Creek or Arndt Trail (#409) have had their paths rebuilt using a mini excavator. Trail #35 is still the original hand-built path. There's a short detour to the old Ruby Ridge Lookout site and some old prospect pits along the ridge top. There is gold there! (Not much).
This trail goes through Grizzly Bear country. Having encountered a sow and cub on this trail myself, I highly recommend carrying bear spray!
