Description
The trail can be in either direction, but it is preferable to go down since there are some steep sections on open faces.
This trail is an extension of
Buckhorn Trail #96 and continues from the summit east following Buckhorn Creek.
The trail starts near the summit and descends, at times steeply, to the east. The trail follows an open face that is loose and rocky so be careful since the trail is a long ways from help. Once you hit the trees you'll leave the loose rocks behind and the trail becomes smoother. Now you'll have a nice long singletrack descent in the trees (there is only one more loose section) with the trail becoming very mellow for the last half of the hike.
There is also a hot spring around 5 miles down the trail. There is a faint trail that leads down to the river to access the springs. Conditions vary, so it is worth researching further if you want to make a hot springs stop.
This trail is a great addition to a backpacking trip.
