Family Friendly
Families should stay downstream at the small creek crossing, upstream to The Wall Loop involves a long climb and a much narrower trail surface.
If it rained today the trail is closed tomorrow. Trail is also closed during freeze/thaw cycles. Check trail status on Facebook at Cochran Mill Trails. If you encounter wet trails, regardless of when it rained, please respect them and consider the 20-mile gravel loop that leaves from the park.
Description
Please note the out-and-back to the falls is 7.6 miles.
The
Yellow Trail offers a unique hiking experience for the entire family, with scenery found no where else in the Atlanta Metro area. This trail provides access to the scenic Henry Mill Falls. Be sure to take time to relax at the falls before beginning your return hike.
The falls offer a great experience for children as it allows them to take a break before the hike back to the car. If 7+ miles is too far for you or your child there is a large rock outcrop about 1.5 miles in that kids love to play on.
The more experienced hiker will want to checkout The Wall Loop which is clearly marked and will be on your right, uphill, two-tenths of a mile from your turnaround at the falls. The Wall Loop offers a much more backcountry-like experience with narrow singletrack.
After about one mile, the trail begins to climb The Wall, so named as it looks like a rock wall when viewed from the bottom. Once to the top, take your time to soak in the scenery and climb on some of the huge boulders the trail meanders through. You'll find the scenery in this portion of the park too unbelievable and you'll wonder how you are only minutes from downtown Atlanta.
There is another yellow trail through Zack's Glade that you can use as well. Do not enter the trail marked horses only, it is very muddy.
Please note there is an equestrian trail that parallels the lower half of the loop and is marked for horses only. Do not hike this trail as it will lead to impassible mud holes that will ruin your visit to the park.
