Description

From the parking lot, hikers cross into open alpine fields before continuing into the forest. Heading uphill after about a mile, you'll soon arrive at a large sandstone boulder: History Rock. Continue onto some switchbacks that lead to another alpine field with a big view and glimpses of Hyalite Reservoir below.

From here, the trail continues more comfortably uphill through larger spruce and pine. After a little over three miles, you'll hit another alpine field and the trail begins to head downhill, slowly at first, and then more aggressively.

You'll soon be following Fox Creek through a thick forest. The trail crosses the creek a couple of times as you go downhill. Eventually, the trail flattens out as you get down and across Cottonwood Creek and unite with Cottonwood Creek Trail #422.
