Upper reaches of trail closed until July 1 to protect calving elk.
Description
The trail is a great downhill hike (taking the lift makes this a great option if you want a great hike without 3,200' of climbing!). The trail is mostly smooth, with a few rocky sections but nothing severe.
However, if you want a long day (and and early morning to boot), as a climb, this trail begins at the warm springs base area out Warm Springs Road. The first bit of the trail is a bit steep, but don't worry - it becomes more gradual once you get into the trees. The trail switchbacks and traverses all the way to the top of Bald Mountain. This climb is not super technical and ascends at a reasonable grade, but it is long.
Beautiful sections of burned trees will open you to many amazing vistas. There is one great overlook a the top of the trail, and a second (Little America Point) roughly 3 miles below the top.
This is used by both hikers and bikers so be aware of other users on the trail.
