Description
The Chicot Lake Trail will take you all around the lake with lakeside views throughout. The hilliest section is between the North and South campgrounds. An easier option is to take the paved road between the two campgrounds.
There are a few bridges that cross the back sections of the lake. The fall and early winter is the best time to hike this trail. Once the rains start in the winter and throughout the spring, the trail will hold water. It is easier to hike in the clockwise direction.
There are 4 trailheads (South campground, North campground, East Landing, and one at the bridge between the North and South camping areas). If you want to camp and hike, you must enter the park at the South campground entrance.
To get to the East Landing from I49, take HWY 106 to Spillway Rd (just passed the Cleco power plant). Be sure to bring $2 per person for the self-pay station.
