“A great high-country trail with two miles of climbing, then a beautiful alpine traverse and a great descent!
”
The trail is usually open around the end of June when the snow melts. The gate closes for hunting season. The trail is multi-use so be courteous to other trail users.
Description
Turn off of US HWY 95 onto FS Road 272. Follow the road up Mission Creek for about three miles to the junction with Harvey Mountain Road. Follow Harvey Mountain Road for to the trailhead.
Depending on the time of year, the road may be closed at a gate. If closed, start hiking there! If open, you can continue up the road, take the first left, and follow the road to the trailhead.
Climb for about two miles to the old Mission Mountain Lookout site. From the lookout, the trail traverses through high meadows for a few miles then begins a great descent down to the Gillon Creek Valley.
This trail gets you right up against the U.S. - Canada border with great views of the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains.
