Description
The Red Fox Loop Trail (recognizable at signposts with a red "blaze" and white fox logo) comes to junctions with the short
Halle Home Trail as well as the
Rabbit Run Loop Trail. The quickest way to reach the Red Fox Loop Trail from the Penitentiary Glen Reservation parking lot is by taking the Glen Meadow Trail to the
Halle Home Trail, reaching the southeast corner of the Red Fox Loop Trail.
Going clockwise, the trail is on a wide gravel track, weaving its way through a meadow that is often filled with birds. The meadow has few trees, making it easy to spot birds as well as offering little shade. In the southwest corner of the trail is a short boardwalk heading out to the left to an observation deck on the small pond. This is also one of the locations where the trail can connect to the
Rabbit Run Loop Trail (which doubles as a short section of the 1,444 mile Buckeye Trail which loops around Ohio.) Continuing along on the gravel, the northwest corner of the Red Fox Loop has another short spur connecting it to the Rabbit Run Loop.
In the northeast corner of the trail is a short gravel spur that leads to an overlook of Penitentiary Glen. Throughout this meadow area of Penitentiary Glen Reservation there are multiple mowed grass paths which are available to take and since it is a small area, hike improvisation and navigation are easy.
