Description
The East Observatory Trail begins at the trail juncture where the
Observatory Trails Connector and the
Ferndell Trail come to an end. From here, follow the East Observatory Trail as it climbs up the hillside to the northeast. After briefly climbing, you'll start to get great views of Mt. Hollywood, Mt. Lee, the Griffith Park Observatory, and downtown L.A.
The trail then bends north to reach a juncture with the
West Observatory Trail, at which point the trails merge and continue further to the east as the East Observatory Trail. Soon after this junction, you'll reach another, this time with the
Griffith Park Observatory Spur. Turn left here if you want to hike up to the observatory, otherwise stay to the right to follow the East Observatory Trail.
After hiking the East Observatory Trail for nearly 1/2 of a mile further, you'll reach the trail's end as it runs into Vista del Valle Dr. From here, you can return along the same route or try to meet up with other trails in the nearby area.
