Description

This loop trail is relatively new, evident by the fresh red trail markers and how the trail is not that worn yet. Still, it is easy to follow due to good marker placement. After parking on Dennytown Road, cross the street and follow the Appalachian Trail for about 100 feet. Although the Catfish Loop Trail is clearly marked out on Dennytown Road, it is confusingly not where the loop starts. However, the red discs are easy to spot once you make your way down the AT. This trail can be used in either direction, but generally I take it clockwise (left at the trail junction). This is a nice section of trail through open forest and little underbrush.

There is only one viewpoint along the trail through a rock outcropping. It is a little difficult to get on top for the view. The next 1.5 miles is rocky and meanders through the forest. With about 1.5 miles to go, you'll approach an old stone wall. After this the trail is fern-lined and easy until the very end where you'll encounter a steep descent.
