Best not to set out on this loop on high bush fire risk days.
Overview
The East Sherbrooke Forest Walk joins some of the interesting and scenic trails through the Sherbrooke Forest. Starting and finishing at Grant's Picnic Ground, which is a popular tourist destination.
Need to Know
Grant's Picnic Ground has a cafe, large car parking area, and a bird feeding area. Bird feed can be bought from the cafe.
Description
Head out for this walk from Grant's Picnic Ground on the
Lyrebird Walk, then continue on
Neumann Track, which passes through cleared areas of bush created by the successive wildfires of the early 1900s. At the
Paddy Track junction, continue the track downhill before climbing
Welch Track.
Welch Track then joins
Coles Ridge Track, which is a wide fire vehicle access track that will lead you back to the picnic ground.
Most of the loop is through the rainforest so it can be quite muddy and wet under foot during rainy times. There are steep sections on Paddy and
Welch Track, which may be slippery when wet.
The loop takes you through the beautiful rainforest where, if you're lucky, you may even see the elusive lyrebirds, wallaby, kangaroos and Australian birdlife.
