  • This is a popular trail with mountain bikers who may be descending at speed. Be alert as you hike
  • The connecting Glassier OS Trail, is closed from Dec. 1 to May 16. If spring conditions allow, you can explore this trail during late April or early May, but plan accordingly, as you won't be able to enter the Glassier Open Space property.

Description

Use this trail as a worthy connection between Buckhorn and Glassier OS Trail. The trail can be enjoyed in either direction, with steeps ups and downs on the northwest end, and twists and turns on the southeast end.

The terrain is mostly sage meadows, with dense scrub oak never too far away. Views of the Roaring Fork Valley, Basalt Mountain, and even the horizon towards the Flattops make for a classic Colorado scene.

This trail is perfect for a hike in either direction as an out-and-back or loop when combined with other nearby trails such as Rio Grande Trail, Buckhorn, and Glassier OS Trail.

Note that the trail crosses a number of doubletrack roads which descend north to private property; best to stay on the trail at these intersections.

RFMBA designed this trail, worked with the BLM to achieve required approvals, and secured funding from Mid Valley Trails Committee of Eagle County and Pitkin County Open Space and Trails so that a combination of volunteers, Tony Boone Trails & the Tango Trailworks crew could turn the plan into reality.
