This track is a more challenging and interesting alternative to the Rapaki Track. The lower section passes through native bush by a stream. Above the gate about 1.5km/1mile, it opens out into tussock grassland. Towards the top, the trail becomes less well-defined, but it is easy to pick a line to the Rapaki Track or the Summit Road.
Flora & Fauna
Mostly tussock grassland, but it starts in the native bush by the stream. Cabbage trees, Kowhai, and even a Totora. There are sheep too.
