Description

The trail begins as an ATV trail at the end of an old mining road. The ATV trail last for about 3.6 miles and involves some of the steepest climbing of the entire route. There have been some switchbacks added to help mellow out the climb, but you'll surely be pushing your heart rate in the first mile and a half.

Once on the ridgeline, you'll follow the spine until you come to a trail junction. The ATV route will turn left and you'll continue on the ridge onto 6.4 miles of singletrack. Just after leaving the ATV trail, start looking down to your left and you'll see an alpine lake tucked in the mountains along with some great meadows.

At the junction with the East Basin Lake Trail, you can follow the trail down and into the lakes basin if you are looking for a detour. Leaving the lakes behind, you'll continue on the ridge and then start a steep descent into Hay Creek.

After the steep descent, the trail will again become an ATV track. You'll continue down Hay Creek on the ATV trail for about 3.5 miles. Then you'll bear right at the junction to continue on the trail and it will again become singletrack. This portion of singletrack is about 6 miles in length and will take you to Hyndman Lake. The last part before the lake is going to be steep and loose in sections.

You can take this one as an out-and-back, or you can turn it into an even longer loop, heading west on the Hay-Knapp Creek Western Segment, or make a loop in the opposite direction using short road segments to connect the West Fork of Yankee Fork Trail to your starting point.
