Description

From the Gooch Gap parking area, the designation of the forest road changes from Cooper Gap Road FS42-1 to FS42-2. It hovers between 2,600 and 3,000 ft high up in the North Georgia Mountains with a number of short, gentle climbs/descents following the main ridge line of the north Georgia Mountains.

After Gooch Gap, you'll pass Cane Creek Cap, Persimmon Gap, Jones Gap, Locust Gap, Ward Gap, Justus Gap, Cooper Gap, Horse Gap, Mauldin Gap, and finally Hightower Gap. At Hightower Gap, the forest road continues as Blue Ridge Road FS-42.

The Appalachian Trail crosses at Gooch Gap, Cooper Gap, and Hightower Gap.

These roads are great for hiking if the Bull Mountain trails are too wet or if it's freeze-thaw season. Wear orange if it's hunting season.
