Overview
A great route that leads from the village of Rum to the sand dunes of Wadi Rum.
Description
This route can be used as an introduction to the area upon arrival. It takes you south from the Rum village following the sand floor of Wadi Rum. It reaches the southernmost point of Jebel Um al-Ishrin, where the open space of Khor El Ajram allows for impressive views to the south and southeast.
Without venturing into the rocky jebels, turn northeast and enter Wadi Um al-Ishrin. Stay clear from the rocks to the east (right). While most of the sandy surface in the region is flat, the hike will take you to a place with some steep sand formations on the eastern side of Jebel Um al-Ishrin. The sand dunes can be reached also via an alternative route through a deep siq in Jebel Um al-Ishrin, which is shorter but of a higher grade (would rate as extremely difficult).
Flora & Fauna
A few plants, no trees, with some small rodents and other desert animals. Sinai Rosefinch is common. Raptors include Barbary Falcon, and many other species during migration (contact me if interested).
