Description

The Western Rim National Recreation Trail is a long ridge top route along the western rim of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. The trail goes in and out of the Hells Canyon Wilderness.

The hiking route begins in the south at the PO Saddle Trailhead and heads north until it hits the Dug Bar Trailhead next to the Snake River. Be sure to stop to take in the remarkable view along the way from Somers Point, looking down the canyon to the Snake River.

Be aware that the trail is shared with mountain bikes in the middle portion, from Hat Point Road until the Lord Flat airstrip.
