Description
The trail is most easily accessed at the boat launch area off of Reardon Road. From here, the best route is to the south, taking you through the disc golf course and then up onto the dam that provides beautiful views. The route then re-enters the trail system through the South Overlook parking lot and heads down a dirt road leading to meadows and the shoreline of the lake. Needless to say, this is a very serene setting where waterfowl and wildflowers are in abundance.
By staying on the trail, you'll come to an area where a bridge used to connect both sides of the Shoreline Trail. Now that the bridge is gone, the area makes a pretty spot for stopping, taking a rest, and grabbing a bite to eat. I've been told that swans have been seen here, however, I have yet to see any. The stone footings still stand where the bridge used to be. From here, one can turn and go back the way they came to the car or continue on the
Quinebaug River Trail or Ramsdell Woods Trail.
If you prefer to head north from the boat launch at the beginning, the trail takes on a similar character to the southern end, but instead connects with the Woodland Walk Trail, Lost Trail, and the campground.
