Description

If you're resourceful enough to have made it out to this area of the San Juan's already, why not climb one of the area's most scenic peaks as well?

Storm King's southwest ridge is perhaps one of the best high alpine routes I've ever done. And, at a sustained class 3 grade with bomber rock, you can see why this area is so popular for alpinists.

From Trinity Saddle, follow the obvious trail north that eventually fades to more vertical rock. Unlike other summits, this one is not very well marked, and good route-finding skills will be very useful. Once on the route, you'll be experiencing pure scrambling ecstasy. Remember, if the ridge gets too exposed, you can (for the most part) stay left (west) for safer traveling. At the top, there's a catwalk that will bring you direct to the summit.
