Overview
This hike combines spectacular views from
Bluff Trail with vistas from Oats Peak and Valencia Peak.
Need to Know
Bring a hat and plenty of water since the only shade you'll get is on
Coon Creek Trail.
Description
The first part of this loop follows the
Bluff Trail along the coast with great views of the cliffs and the Pacific Ocean. Feel free to take a couple detours down to the water and explore the cliffs. Once you reach the Pecho Valley parking lot, keep to the right to get on
Coon Creek Trail. The next few miles lead you through mostly dense riparian vegetation on both sides of the trail and you cross Coon Creek several times over bridges. Turn left onto
Oats Peak Trail and follow the switchbacks up to Oats Peak.
Right before you reach Oats Peak, make a sharp left turn to stay on the trail. Oats Peak offers a great vista of the entire Montaña de Oro State Park. Continue on
Oats Peak Trail and keep left towards
Valencia Peak Trail. Feel free to take the short spur up Valencia Peak before you head back towards the cliffs. The switchbacks on
Valencia Peak Trail offer a great panoramic view.
