Description

From the Deep Gap parking area, cross Aska Road to the trail entrance on the east side. Here, a lightly twisting, wide singletrack begins a gentle ascent of Green Mountain.

After that, you'll descend down to Lake Blue Ridge. After the intersection with Long Branch Connector #165F, the singletrack becomes significantly narrower, and the path has more root and rock obstacles but nothing too difficult.

At about the two-mile mark, the singletrack spits out for a moment onto a gravel cul-de-sac for several houses. The entrance to the north side of Green Mountain Trail is easy to miss, just to the left of the driveway directly in front of you. (Download the GPX or bring the Hiking Project mobile app, and you won't have this problem.)

The forest cover never breaks enough to have a really spectacular view of the lake, but there are a few side trails that run down to the lake. The trail ends at FS711 which will take you out to Aska Road and back to Deep Gap parking area if you want to make this into a loop.

Note that some older references refer to an "Upper" Green Mountain Trail between Deep Gap and Long Branch Connector #165F. This trail has been closed and obliterated by the USFS so only this former "lower" Green Mountain Trail (shown here) exists.
