This straightforward route is good for hikers who can handle the 4 mile round trip.
Description
While the trail itself is nothing to write home about, this route is the way that hikers can access
Keys Ranch. The ranch is the remnant of a functioning operation from the not-so-distant past. As recently as the 1960's, visitors to the area would have come across a fully operational ranch, complete with a school and a general store. However, the area and its history are now preserved for posterity.
Heading north from the Echo Tee Trail parking area, hikers will follow a continuously sandy trail all the way to the ranch. The going is fairly straightforward, unlike some of Joshua Tree's more rugged trails. You also won't have to worry about scratching yourself on close-growing and prickly native plants.
Be sure to check the operating hours of the ranch before setting out! Once you've explored the site, you'll simply return the way that you came.
