Description
This easy-to-follow trail begins as an old doubletrack logging road. After approximately one mile, it passes through a clearing that has been dubbed a wild turkey habitat project before re-entering the forest in a singletrack fashion. Shortly, the trail begins to climb, reaching gradients in the 8-12% range for three quarters of a mile until it tops out in a clear-cut/nuke zone that is particularly unattractive.
The last stretch is on a gravel road to the terminus at Rattlesnake Run Road. I took it in January and the winter views were nice, if unspectacular. We incorporated this trail within a longer hike starting at Camp Penn. If you'd like to replicate our route, the trails used included Reservoir Hill, Royer Hollow, Stone Quarry, Corner 10,
High Rock Road Bypass, Old Green
Ridge Road,
Columbia Gas Pipeline and the
Appalachian Trail.
