Family Friendly The trail generally has gentle grades, and it's easy to customize your hike with a variety of starting and stopping points.

The NCT is closed to hiking during the deer rifle season. No overnight use (including camping) is allowed within Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge.

Section Of

Description

This section of the NCT traverses lake country and travels through the hardwood hills and mixed Laurentian forest biomes. Along the way you'll pass by hundreds of lakes, along numerous wetlands, and through a generally rolling landscape.

From south of Vergas through Hwy 34, the NCT is mostly a roadwalk. North of Hwy 34 the NCT becomes a contiguous off-road trail mostly passing through publicly owned lands.

Flora & Fauna

You'll see a great variety of birds and mammals (including deer & possibly wolves). Plants range from spring wildflowers to old-growth pine forests.
