The short hike to Akaka Falls is paved and popular for families with small children.
Payment of $5/vehicle or $1/pedestrian is required at the parking area.
Description
The route starts at Akaka Falls State Park parking lot. The paved path quickly descends multiple sets of steps to the junction with the main loop. Take a left and head towards the falls. Hike through lush tropical vegetation to the overlook of Akaka Falls which plunges 442 feet into the valley.
Continue around the loop to more views into the deep valley through the lush undergrowth of the rainforest. Take in the view of the 100-ft tall Kahuna Falls, which is more difficult to see due to the forest growth. The route connects to the beginning of the loop and climbs back to the parking lot.
Akaka Falls is best photographed in the early morning when the sun shines directly onto the falls.
