Description

The trail can be started either from the carpark or as a continuation of the Pinchgut Track to complete the Mt. Robert Circuit. Starting from the carpark, the trail winds through peaceful forest and crosses a few small scree fields. After about 1 mile, the track begins to climb steeply with occasional switchbacks. At times, there are larger rifts in the track making careful footwork necessary.

After climbing steadily for 1.5 miles, you reach the Bushline Hut, a great place for a snack break with superb views of the south arm of Lake Rotoiti and the St. Arnaud range to the east. Continuing on, a fairly level hike of about a mile leads you to Relax Shelter, where you can connect with the Pinchgut Track to return to the car park and complete the Mt. Robert Circuit or continue on towards Lake Angeles.

Lake Rotoiti is stunning. In the distance (center, with clear blue sky) is the valley of the Blenheim wine region.

Relax Shelter is above timberline on Pinchgut Track. The Mt. Robert Circuit on Paddy's Track veers left at Relax Shelter, while an alpine route (Robert Ridge Route) continues straight on the exposed ridge.
