Description

This is a paved multi-use trail that allows one to walk, bike, or rollerblade from Mandan to Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. The best access point for the trail is from the parking lot of Dog Town Dog Park and Sitting Bull Park at the intersection of 8th Ave South and Highway 1806 in Mandan, just south of the Heart River.

From here, continue south on the paved trail. Most of the route is on the west side of Highway 1806. On the north side of Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, Highway 1806 curves around the park to the southwest and the trail passes under the highway continuing south to the park.

Continue into the park on what used to be the park entrance road (before the entrance was moved from the north end of the park to the south). In the park, the trail eventually splits off the road and is a separate multi-use path again, taking users within easy access of the Little Soldier Loop and Young Hawk Interpretive Trail, past the visitor center, and eventually ending at the entrance to the campgrounds.

Flora & Fauna

White-tail deer, pheasants, a variety of birds and wildflowers.
