Description
This is an easy trail that primarily follows along Percy Lake. It has some nice rocky climbs, but, overall, it is an easy trail. In the summertime, there is a part that is used as "party bay" where it gets noisy and it smells like public toilets, but otherwise it is one of the more scenic trails in the Nashville area.
At the start of the trail, look for the white trail markers of the
Volunteer Trail, which is what the Day Loop Trail starts out as. Soon, the blazes transition to orange for the actual Day Loop Trail. Ample signage points you in the right direction.
The first half of the trail follows alongside Percy Priest Lake. It provides a near-constant breeze that is hard to find in the humid summer months. There are several places along the trail where you can take a little detour and gaze out across the lake. One such detour has you climbing on top of a large rock overlooking the lake – The view is absolutely gorgeous!
There are a few cautionary things to note about the trail itself. If it has rained recently, the rocks and tree roots underfoot will become very slick. In a few spots along the trail, this can spell trouble as the tread is nothing but rocks.
