Description
The trail begins at a small parking area on the southernmost tip of the Plateau Camping Area. This trail wanders the western banks of Lake Mineral Wells. There are many fishing spots located along this trail, as well as plenty of photo opportunities of the lake.
The trail literally winds along the banks of the lake and although it is marked in places, it can be a bit challenging to follow because of all the small trails that extend out from just about every camping site. The trail does follow the road for a short way about 1/4 mile after you start, but quickly ducks back into the forest. Be aware that this trail does travel very close to some campsites, so use good judgement and manners while enjoying your hike and do your best to not hike through someone's camping area.
The path switches from mainly sandy conditions, to hard pack clay, and then to some very rocky sections towards the end. You'll travel past all three of the main camping areas and will end at the screen shelter area. Mind your step as portions of this trail are often wet and can be very slippery at times. Overall, it's a nice trail that is easily accessible to most campsites and provides great views of the entire lake.
