Description
The yellow-blazed Wyanokie
Crest Trail is a little used 4.4-mile trail within Norvin Green State Forest.
The trail is rocky, a bit rugged, and for the first half at least, unlike most other trails in northern NJ. The trail starts at a parking area on Glenwild Ave or you can pick up the trail off the blue-blazed
Hewitt-Butler Trail, at about the mid-point between Chikahoki Falls and Otter Hole. It follows a small tributary of Posts Brook and features a dual-log stream crossing and several sections of boulder hopping, one of which bears little resemblance to a trail where it is up to the individual to pick and step their way across.
After crossing the green-blazed
Otter Hole Trail, head up a sharp incline of 20-30% grade to Buck Mountain. The climb has some moderately challenging rock scrambles with the payoff of a rewarding view of the New York City Skyline.
Wyanokie Crest can also be easily combined with other trails within Norvin Green State Forest.
