Track dinosaurs from long ago as you hunt for their footprints embedded in the river rock.
For trail conditions, closures, and restrictions check the park
website. As most trails either follow the river or require you to cross it, it is wise to check for closures prior to visiting.
Description
This trail follows the Paluxy River starting at the northern parking area. You'll travel southward down the banks of the river while gaining great river access for swimming, fishing, or dinosaur tracking. This is a singletrack dirt path that is very easy to follow. You travel behind several campsites so be sure you stick to the trail.
The first half of the hike is heavily wooded with plenty of shade while the last half follows the edge of a large field with lots of sun exposure. Be sure to bring your hat and sunscreen for this hike. As you near the end of the trail, you can see the heads of dinosaurs over the treeline to the southwest from the small amusement park at the doorstep to the state park. The trail concludes at the main park road allowing you to backtrack or just wander down the road back to your site or car.
