“A lovely hill country hike over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone.
”
Family Friendly
Short, easy, plenty of benches for stopping, decent shade, and nice areas for climbing.
Description
Crownridge Canyon Natural Area is a pretty little canyon in the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. They have been restoring the ecology to the oak savanna that was here prior to settlers, so there is an interesting mix of Texas cedar and the deciduous trees they are encouraging.
The trail is surrounded by classic hill country landscape with crumbly limestone draws and nice shady trees most of the way. There is a waterfall escarpment that flows after a rain. This area is not crowded, so it makes for a nice escape from nearby Friedrich Wilderness on a nice day. This trail is perfect for families with plenty of rest benches and easy terrain. There are 2 loops, so you can take a 1.3 or 2 mile version, depending on if you add in the Bear Grass Trail or stick with this one.
