Description

This trail takes work but you are rewarded with good views of the San Pasqual Valley on the way up and panoramas from the top. The trail cruelly drops 150 feet in the first quarter mile to cross the San Dieguito River though the way it descends is quite pretty.

Next comes 2.2 miles of switchbacks, best attacked in the cool hours of early morning. Once on top, there are various options to different spot elevations.

Not many people make their way out here. Midweek you might have the whole trail to yourself.

Sage, my favorite plant in the mountains of the US west: beautiful to look at and wonderful to smell after crushing a few leaves on your beard.
