Overview
This is an enjoyable hike because it contains a very steep hill climb for a small portion of the hike. The rest is either on pavement or logging trails. At the top of the steep hill climb, you get a very nice view of Houghton and Hancock.
Need to Know
This hike often has water in some low lying places.
Description
We always start the hike at the Apostolic Lutheran Church heading north. Follow the paved road till it turns left about 90° and another quarter mile or so it will turn to logging trails. Follow the logging trail till you come to a T, then turn left. Follow this slightly winding, up-down trail until the large hill comes into sight, it will be on your left. Turn left to climb the large hill.
At the top, enjoy the view of Houghton and Hancock while you take a little rest. Then take an immediate left from where you came up the hill to travel back down a rocky path. This will take you to another T where you'll turn left. You should walk past a municipal building on your right, follow the path to where there is pavement on your left and turn. This will take you very close to where you started and it should be visible on your left when you get to the next intersection.
