Overview

This trail features a paved path along the Mississippi River (Promenade Trail), a dirt path/boardwalk (Boardwalk Trail) around a small lake, and a singletrack path through the forest (Wildlife Trail).

Description

To start, make your way to the Promenade Trail. The paved path passes in front of the museum and follows the Mississippi River.

From there, you can follow the dirt road, the Boardwalk Trail, that will lead you along a small lake. Before reaching the lake, a boardwalk takes you above lowland swamp giving a dry-footed view of the Mississippi bottomland. For the more adventurous, a singletrack trail, known as the Wildlife Trail, can be taken on the far end of the lake for a trip through the wilderness. Plenty of wildlife was encountered on the trail, but it is seldom used and poorly maintained so staying on the path can be difficult.

Once you've made your way around the Wildlife Trail, simply return the way that you came, completing the rest of the Boardwalk Trail and retracing your steps on the Promenade Trail.

Flora & Fauna

White-tailed deer, barn owl, songbirds.
