Overview
Beyond the archaeological site are hiking and biking trails through the wooded section of Angel Mounds’ property. Maintained mostly by volunteers, these trails are free and accessible anytime from one of three parking locations.
Need to Know
Vehicles using the Angel Mounds parking lot must be out by 5 p.m.
Description
There is a wooded section outside the fenced in archeological site. This area is free and open to public. Angel Mounds State Historic Site offers a nice system of single and doubletrack trails, and there are several parking lots available.
This hike starts from the southern parking lot and heads out on the
River Loop. Stay to the right at the trail junctions to hike along the
Outer Loop until you come to a junction with the
Levee Trail. Take a left here and after a short ways, you'll see a short connector that puts you back on the
Outer Loop. Hike this trail south until you once again are on the
River Loop and on your way back to the start.
Overall, the trail is mostly flat and easy with only a few small ups and downs along the way.
